Reflection Essay

English class has never been my strong suit, so I was extremely nervous when I signed up for Composition two. I was not sure what was going to be expected of me or if I could even keep up. Little did I know this class was going to be the best decision I could make for my future. I have learned so much more in this course than I have learned in my four years of high school. This class has pushed me to become a better writer and critical thinker in life. All the essays I wrote in this class taught me something different.

The argumentative essay taught me how to apply the PEE format in my essays. It was a weird transition at first, but the more essays I wrote, the easier it was to apply this format. This format also made it easier for me to organize the layout of my essay. I sent my counselor my rough draft to workshop, and she said that I “organized it very well” (Ashley Jacobs). That was the first time I realized PEE truly had an impact on my writing. This essay also taught me how to efficiently research a topic. I learned how to find credible sources I could use in my essay. This is going to help me write well written and trustworthy essays in the future. This is not the only essay that taught me important writing skills.

The rhetorical analysis essay has taught me to use critical thinking skills by thinking on a deeper level. This was by far the most challenging essay I have ever had to write. It pushed me to my limits but in the end, it made me a better writer. I feel more confident than ever in my writing skills. I also feel more prepared for college now that I know how to write at a college level. This has lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. This essay also taught me how to extend my thoughts as well as put them into words, which is one thing I really struggle with. What I mean by this is that I have so many thoughts about my essay, but I can never find the right words to say. This class has greatly helped me with that. I can now put my thoughts into words faster than I have ever been able to. This makes my essays flow smoothly and get to the point. There is one more essay that helped me improve my writing

The last essay I feel has greatly impacted my writing is the comparative reflection essay. This essay made me a better writer because it had me look back at all of my writing assignments and reveal my strengths and weaknesses. This is something that I feel all good writers should be able to do; in the end it will only make them better. Now that I know what my weaknesses are and how to fix them, I can continue to improve my writing. For instance, I did not realize I struggled with formatting until I began this assignment. I now realize I messed up on my spacing between paragraphs. Without this assignment I would not have known that, and I would have continued to format it like that.

This class has vastly improved my writing skills and I look forward to putting those skills to great use. I am still learning, but I can already see a huge difference in my essays. I learned how to format correctly with PEE, find credible sources, and be a critical thinker. To some, this may not seem like much, but if you look at one of my essays from last year and one from this class, you will see how much improvement I have made. I now feel ready for college because I know I can write at a college level thanks to Composition two.
